As many of you know, King’s Cross Church was planted through the help of a planting network called the North American Mission Board (NAMB). NAMB collaborates with the International Mission Board (IMB) to accomplish this awesome initiative called Send Relief. In cities across the United States, Send Relief partners with churches to (1) identify pressing needs in the city and (2) meet these needs in the name of Jesus Christ! Send Relief has multiple "Serve Tours" across the nation, where they send a couple thousand volunteers to a city and do service projects, compassion projects, and evangelism initiatives in that city.

San Diego Serve Tour in Feb 2025

On February 21-22, the Serve Tour will be hosted here in San Diego, and, to make matters even cooler, NAMB reached out to our church asking if we'd be a Central Hub for the San Diego Serve Tour! This means that over the weekend of February 21st-22nd, we will be hosting somewhere around 500 volunteers here at our church, to spearhead service projects in our surrounding cities and neighborhoods.

What does it mean to be a Central Hub?

As a central hub for the San Diego Serve Tour this means that we get to (1) propose various service, ministry, and evangelism projects for review, (2) get a semi truck parked in our lot to house all the supplies and tools needed for the approved projects, (3) have hundreds of volunteers show up here for worship and check in, and (4) get to personally project manage many of the local projects that volunteers will serve at.

We have already been connecting with many in our city, such as local fire and police stations, city government officials, local organizations working with foster care and sex trafficking victims, many of the local schools, and more to understand their needs to find ways to connect with them and serve them. And it's been awesome.

Want to get involved?

This is an awesome opportunity for our church to meet the needs of our city and make Jesus known. In order to make this happen, in the coming weeks we'll be rolling out sign ups for those in our church who would like to volunteer in February, but we also will need various individuals in our church to be project leaders to help oversee a project. So please stay tuned for those sign-ups in the coming weeks.

But in the meantime, would you mind filling out the Gifts & Talents Survey? This helps us in two ways:

  1. First, it lets us know what skillsets we have in the church, so that we can better understand and narrow down the sorts of projects our church would be skilled in leading during the San Diego Serve Tour.

  2. It also helps us plan for the future. It lets us know the interests and skill sets of the body of our church, to help us cast vision and plan for 2025 and beyond.

Additional Questions?

  • The Serve Tour, in partnership with churches, associations, your state convention, and Send Relief seeks to inspire Southern Baptists across North America to engage in compassion ministry by providing opportunities for churches to participate in ministry projects in one specific city. The goal of the Serve Tour is to be the vehicle through which churches demonstrate the love of Christ in the city by engaging in compassion ministry.
